DAVE School is Awesome I am just having a blast. I hate being a pain in the ass perfectionist, otherwise I would've turned in my blah work an hour earlier, but instead i stayed past school time just to get it right.

Critiques please.

We're being graded on our Technical Directorial skills. Models were provided, we had to texture, setup and light the scene ourselves.

I'm very new to LW, so it took me a while to get used to it's procedural texture editor (surface editor and it's procedural textures). The LW9 Texture Node Editor is awesome, but I didn't use it at all for this. Though I did play with it and I understand it some what, I'm not used to it. Layering to me comes very naturally, so I went that route.

This looks interesting, but the lighting seems a tad off, especially on the drip collars of the candelabra. In a real unlit room, the shadows would be sharper, there'd be more contrast, and if you check the shadows on the drip collars, you'll see that unless they're at different heights, the candle nearest us is missing a shadow. Other than that, it looks great. I know what you mean about the perfectionist bit, sometimes I cut it down to the wire before turning something in (like one minute before cut off time.) Hope you're enjoying yourself down there, we miss you in AL.

yeah i'm really bugged about the shadows too, i have a light coming down above the candelabra that was supposed to cast sharper shadows to offset my second key light. Somehow my second keylight became over bearing and that is why the lighting inside the drip cups, and and the shadows are off.

Since most of my time was wasted helping another student, and it took me a while to get used to this programs procedural maps, I kind of rushed through the lighting, and failed to note my shadows. I was more interested in getting the right ambient color, and have as much visibility on the objects without washing out the detail of my textures. Which I ended up doing anyway on my bananas, but that is mostly because I lowered some of the textures opacity because I thought they were too strong. I didn't count on the lighting washing them out.

Once I get my copy of the program to use at home, i'll tweak it some more and post an update.

Thanks a mill for the critique, and I try and visit the AL group, but it seems to have been ded and still :/

Aha! That makes a lot more sense, and I actually wondered if a different light source was the "source" of your trouble. Can't wait to see the revision, it's an awesome start. You're welcome for the c&c, and I know about AL, it's so sad...seemed to go belly up before anyone knew. We've tried to keep it going, but you know...
